For those of you who do not know the unique and vast educational foundation of UNLV and all it offer, then you really have not done your research. The level of education, culture, professions and career choices make UNLV one of the most prominent colleges in the world. As a UNLV attendee, I was thrilled when I was invited to this annual event which honors those who have done so much for this educational institution as well as our up and coming members of society that we honor with the grants provided by these amazing contributions.
As a writer, I have had the pleasure of meeting some of the most unique and intriguing people; but tonight I have to say was one of the most exciting (well next to the chaotic MMA fight the night before!) OK, your right, this is not the same thing, but I just had to throw my love of sports into the mix. So tonight I had the honor of listening to the wonderful daughter of the infamous JFK. She spoke about women's rights, education, diversity, poverty and what our roles are as Americans. But UNLV also honored the generous donors and community leaders who have helped our Young and upcoming Doctors, Lawyers, teachers and professionals achieve their dreams. But, with Caroline, It was truly inspiring to go back to our roots and hear the words from her father spill out into her speech.
I mean, when I think of Americans and what we are all about, almost every time I will think of JFK and the era of Love, Peace, Prosperity, Togetherness and a willingness to do what it takes to bring us all together.
So when Caroline references her father throughout this speech, it is enough to make any father proud. She referenced quotes such as, "Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other!" and the famous "Too often we enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought" There were many points throughout her speech that her father was brought into the conversation. These two quotes resonated with me deeply though. In the discomforting times we are facing now with all the diversity, racism, accusations and just downright disgusting behavior, I have to wonder what JFK would think about the times we are facing. The true meaning of being an american, what people would be protesting, thinking, doing and committing to, if we still had someone like him in office.
As a Blogger, I constantly preach to stay away from Politics and Religion, but here I am taking on a political subject because the topic is one that cannot be ignored. I am not a person that says I am this or that, I am a person that believes the right thing is usually somewhere in the middle. However, these days it make me wonder where my children will be in 10 years, in 15 years, if we will even survive to see 50 years out. Everything is about survival of the fittest. We see things that are NOT even there just to have something to fight about, nothing makes any sense to me anymore when it comes to our younger generation. I am truly concerned and have been from the Moment we decided to go against the president that was rightfully elected. Just as I felt the doom enveloping me, the BRIGHT Light of JFK comes shining through his beautiful daughters lips as she talked about all these subjects with such passion that she would forget what she was saying and trip on her own words trying to get these thoughts out. She is a woman that can inspire anyone to be the best they can be, no matter what their role is.
Before I wrap up my exciting night with all the Founders of UNLV and their special guests, I have to talk about where this occasion was held and how beautifully it was put together. The Bellagio is one of my favorite casino's in Las Vegas. The architecture, the floral arrangements and the air of elegance throughout this Hotel is bar None the best around. This night was NO exception. When we first walked out of the elevators we were greeted by a fragrance that could only be described as fairy-tale. The elegant floral displays were absolutely stunning from the peacocks to the foxes to the fairies and more!
I didn't take enough pictures to show all the true art put into these masterpieces, but you will just have to go see this for yourself. You can walk right in, it will not cost you a dime and it is worth every ounce of time you spend in there to see this. Make sure to bring a good camera as the photo ops are endless.
Our Dinner was on the other side of the building, but worth the walk. Walking past the pool was a sight. The bar was so classy and full of life and the hallways were as stunning as the rest of the buildings. When we finally got to the banquet hall it was set up with the most elegant wedding chairs, embroidered table clothes and eloquent centerpieces. I even mentioned how this could have been a stunning wedding as easily as a fancy dinner. they not only had favors made of Chocolate, but they even had keepsakes and memorabilia to take with us when it was all over. So next time you are wondering where to have your next gathering, trust me, this is the place you want!
