Cats sleep an average of fifteen hours every day. There are even some cats that can sleep the entire day away, literally 24 hours of non-stop sleep? Cats are nocturnal, Most people do not realize this, but they are most active between dusk and dawn, which means they sleep mostly during the day and become more active at night.
As humans, we are not allowed the luxury of sleeping all day, most of us have such busy lives that a good nights rest is a thing of the past. That is why today is so Important, Beauty and rest is the key elements to our success. So let's enjoy National Napping day, our bodies need it.
As we all know, yesterday was Daylight Savings Time and we had to set our clocks ahead one hour when we went to bed on Saturday night. This made us loose one more hour of sleep than normal. It was a surprise to most, when they woke up to all their clocks being wrong and oversleeping due to not noticing the day.
As a blogger, we love to do tons of research before we actually sit down to write an article. However, this was one of those that there was very little info out there to find. I found a few sites that talked about the medical benefits, like ... Five reasons you should take a nap by CNN Or The Family That Naps Together by Monica's Tangled Web. Both articles show very different reasons for why napping is essential and vital for both health and successful life reasons. Check them out by clicking on the links above.
Me, I am not a huge fan of naps, only because I always seem to feel worse when I wake up. My mind is always busy, from the moment I lay down, until I can convince myself to stop thinking enough to fall asleep. BUT, the moment I am awake, it is like my mind is on an endless loop, as it come flooding right back in. Saying this, I know that it is not good for me and something I need to train my body to do, RELAX!!!!
This can be so hard for me to do though, Being a single mom of 3, is a constant whirlwind of worries. I stress over their well-being, over money, food, chores, homework....the list is never ending. So calming my mind enough to rest, is a task in itself.
Today, though, I am going to make a huge effort to treat myself to some much needed rest. I will tell myself I am worth it, that I need to rest my mind, my heart and my soul. That this is something that will not only benefit me, but everyone that touches my life.
Do this for yourself too, wake up feeling refreshed and ready to start new.
National Napping Day Fact
Dr. William Anthony, a Boston University Professor and his wife, Camille Anthony, created National Napping Day in 1999 as an effort to spotlight the health benefits for catching up on quality sleep. They chose the Monday after Daylight Savings Time because Americans are more "nap-ready" than usual. Since they are recovering from losing an hour of sleep. There are many cultures that take mid-afternoon naps, as scientists have proven that a short 20-minute nap improve your concentration for the rest of the day.
So what are you going to do today? Are you going to take a much needed nap? Show off your napping photos below!!!
